ABOUT THE BOOK

Students of Environmental Studies are expected to gain the intellectual and methodological tools to understand and address all the crucial environmental issues of our time and their impact on the individuals, society and the planet as well. A genuine attempt is made to achieve this object while writing the book in hand titled “A Text Book on Environmental Studies” and to cater the need of students understanding the basic and fundamental aspects of the subject. The book is written strictly in consonance with the syllabus designed by the UGC for the undergraduate courses.

The book covers all the fundamental concepts of environmental studies, written concisely and systematically in a very simple and plain language keeping in view the need of the students. Further considering the background of students who are enrolled in it, all possible efforts are made by the author in the book to explain the insight of environmental issues at a glance. The material covered is extensive and important for all students to examine, irrespective of the stream they are enrolled in whether sciences or humanities. Various environment related enactments such as The Environment Protection Act, The Air (Prevention and Control) Act, The Water (Prevention and Control) Act, The Wild life Protection Act and The Forest (Conservation) Act along with the issues involved in enforcement of these Environmental Legislations is also discussed in the book.  In fact, the author in its text not only invites the students to examine the multidisciplinary aspects of the environment but also to recognize their in its current challenges. This undergraduate text book is updated with terminology, abbreviations and recent practice papers would also be helpful for those appearing in competitive examinations.
